Professor James Gives Distinguished Lectures

Richard James gave the Southwest Mechanics Lecture Series on February 17-19, with stops at the University of Texas, Austin, Texas A & M University, and the University of Houston. He spoke, respectively, on "Compatibility, hysteresis and the direct conversion of heat to electricity in multiferroic materials", "Unexpected thermodynamic properties of some exact far-from-equilibrium solutions of molecular dynamics", and "Twisted X-rays: new methods for the determination of noncrystalline structure". This is the southwestern version of the familiar Midwest Mechanics Series that takes place in AEM and other mid-western schools.

James also recently gave the Distinguished Seminar in Mechanical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. While in Colorado, James met a broad collection of faculty in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, the Steel Institute, the Nonferrous Alloys Institute, and the Colorado Fuel Cell Center. He also interacted with Aaron Stebner, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines, with whom James has numerous common interests.
