Middle school students float parachutes from the ceiling of Akerman Hall

On July 6, 2017 a group of middle school girls from the Eureka! Program joined members of the University of Minnesota Stratospheric Ballooning team in Akerman Hall to learn about parachutes and take on the challenge of building and test-dropping their own designs to lower payloads (including eggs!) safely to the ground.

Using everything from plastic bags to paper napkins, these students harnessed their creativity to create fully functioning parachutes that were then dropped from the ceiling of the Gary J. Balas Atrium. Photos of the event can be seen below.
